FAQs

What are the Quadruple Helixes?

Innovation is the result of an interactive process involving different spheres of action, each contributing according to its “institutional” function in society. The traditional protagonists are University (UNI), Industry (IND) and Government (GOV). Civil society (CIV) is the additional sphere included in the Quadruple Helix. The contribution to innovation is foreseen in terms of knowledge sharing and transfer of know-how, with helix models attributing and formalizing a precise role for each sphere in supporting economic growth through innovation. As society becomes more and more interactive, the role of knowledge, as well as the number and scope of the spheres to be included in the process of generating innovation, have increased over time.Innovation is the result of an interactive process involving different spheres of action, each contributing according to its “institutional” function in society.
